The golden “pom poms” of the acacia tree are probably the most easily recognised flowers in Australia, growing in most regions. Commonly known as acacia, mimosa, thorn tree or wattle.

During our recent trip to the historical town of Cossack (near Karratha in Western Australia) we saw many variety's of this colourful plant  growing along roadsides, growing in caravan parks as screening, in dry arid scrubland… dotted amongst rocky outcrops. There were many "in flower" surrounding the buildings of Cossack.

We return home and more yellow “pom poms” greet us as we drive down our street.
